Keeper Effective Date: May 1, 2026
Last Updated: May 4, 2026
1. Introduction
Keeper ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile fishing-log application that helps anglers record catches, track gear, compete in tournaments, and analyze their fishing patterns. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using Keeper, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and Profile Information
When you create an account, we collect:
-
Email address – used for authentication and service communications. If you sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay address instead of your real email; this relay address is used in the same way.
-
Name – first and last name, optionally provided during profile setup.
-
Username – a unique handle (6–20 characters) used for social features such as catch sharing and tournament leaderboards.
-
Phone number – optionally provided in your profile.
-
General location – a free-text field (e.g., "Minneapolis, MN") you may optionally enter in your profile. This is distinct from precise GPS data (see §2.3).
2.2 Catch Log Data
Every catch you record may include:
-
Species, date and time caught
-
Weight and length measurements
-
Depth and water temperature
-
Lure or bait used (name, category, color, size)
-
Cover and structure conditions
-
Personal notes
-
Privacy level – you choose whether each catch is private or shareable
-
Photos – images captured with your camera or selected from your photo library
2.3 Precise Location Data
When you record a catch, Keeper may capture the GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) at the time of logging. Location is collected while the app is in use only — we never access your location in the background.
Location data is used to:
-
Pin catches on your personal map
-
Identify the nearby waterbody using our geospatial database
-
Fetch relevant weather conditions from Open-Meteo at the time of the catch
You may manually place or adjust a catch pin without sharing your actual current position. Location permission can be revoked at any time through your device settings, though some features (map, automatic waterbody detection) will be unavailable without it.
2.4 Weather Data
When you log a catch, we may automatically fetch weather conditions (air temperature, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, sky conditions) from Open-Meteo — an open-source weather API — using your catch location and timestamp. This weather snapshot is stored with your catch record. Open-Meteo does not receive any personally identifiable information; only coordinates and a timestamp are sent.
2.5 Tournament and Social Data
Catch sharing: If you share a catch with another user, both parties' usernames and the shared catch details (species, measurements, notes, lure, GPS pin, and photo) are exchanged through our servers. You can cancel a pending share at any time before the recipient accepts it. Shared catches copied to a recipient's account are marked as private by default.
Hosted tournaments: When you join or host a tournament, your username and first and last name appear on the leaderboard visible to all participants. Aggregate scoring data (bag weight, best fish, fish count) derived from your catches is also shown. Specific catch details — such as exact GPS coordinates, lure, notes, and depth — are not visible to other participants.
Public profile view: Any authenticated Keeper user may look up your username to send you a catch share. Only your username is visible in this lookup; your email, phone, and full name are not publicly exposed.
2.6 Usage and Technical Data
We collect standard technical information necessary to operate and improve the service:
-
Device type, operating system version, and app version
-
Over-the-air update delivery via Expo Updates
-
Session tokens stored securely on your device using Expo SecureStore
-
Crash reports and error diagnostics via Sentry, including stack traces, device model, OS version, and app version at the time of the error. Sentry does not receive your catch data, photos, or precise location. Crash reporting is only active in production and beta builds.
3. How We Use Your Information
-

We do not use your data for targeted advertising and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 On-Device Storage
Keeper is offline-first. Your catches, gear, waterbodies, and photos are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. The app functions fully without an internet connection; data syncs to the cloud when connectivity is available.
4.2 Cloud Storage
We use Supabase (hosted on AWS infrastructure) as our backend. The following data is stored on Supabase servers:
-
Your account profile (email, name, username, phone, location field)
-
Catch records (all fields described in §2.2–2.4, excluding some device-only metadata)
-
Catch photos (stored in a private Supabase Storage bucket; accessible only by you)
-
Waterbody and lure records referenced by your catches
-
Tournament sessions and leaderboard data
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Access to your data is enforced by Row-Level Security (RLS) policies — you can only read or modify your own records, and no other user can access your private data through our API. Catch coordinates are stored on secure servers with encryption at rest and are only accessible to the account that created them. Keeper's operators cannot view your fishing spot locations through the application.
4.3 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard safeguards including encrypted transport, access controls, and database-level security policies. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only as described below.
Service providers — we share data with the following sub-processors to operate Keeper:
-
Supabase — Authentication, database, file storage — Account info, catch data, photos
-
Mapbox — In-app map rendering — Map tile requests; does not receive your personal data or catch pins server-side
-
Open-Meteo — Weather data — GPS coordinates, timestamp (no personal identifiers)
-
Expo / EAS — App build and OTA updates — App version, device metadata
-
Sentry — Crash reporting and error monitoring — Stack traces, device model, OS version, app version
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Keeper, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or in-app notice before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Access and Correction
You can view and update your profile information at any time within the app under Settings → Account.
6.2 Privacy Level on Catches
Each catch has a privacy level you control:
-
Private – visible only to you.
-
Shareable – allows you to send the catch to a specific user you choose. It is not publicly browsable.
6.3 Revoking Location Permission
You can deny or revoke location access in your device's system settings. The app will continue to function, but automatic waterbody detection and map features require location access.
6.4 Revoking Camera / Photo Library Permission
You can deny or revoke camera and photo library access in your device's system settings. You may still enter catch data manually without photos.
6.5 Account Deletion
You may permanently delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This action:
-
Removes your profile, all catch records, lures, waterbodies, and pending catch shares from our servers.
-
Nullifies attribution on any catches previously shared to and accepted by other users (the recipient's copy of the catch is retained, but your name is disassociated).
-
Deletes your photos from Supabase Storage.
-
Deletes your account from our authentication system.
Local data is not automatically wiped from your device. You can remove local data by deleting the app.
Account deletion is immediate and irreversible. We cannot recover your data after deletion.
7. Children's Privacy
Keeper is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account and catch data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your data as described in §6.5. We may retain de-identified, aggregated information (e.g., species catch counts by region with no user linkage) indefinitely for product research.
We may retain certain records for a limited period after deletion where required by applicable law or to resolve disputes.
9. International Users
Keeper is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using Keeper, you consent to this transfer.
10. Third-Party Links and Integrations
Keeper does not currently contain links to third-party websites or integrate third-party advertising networks. If this changes, we will update this policy accordingly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, for material changes, notify you via in-app notice or email. Your continued use of Keeper after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
